Starting off, buying a used car, one really needs to be aware. I did purchase a used truck once, odometer reading at 65000, not until after the exchange took place I drove away, looked at the title, the 1 was scratched out and the reading was for 165000. Similar today but I got let off a little easier. Looked over, under, and around the car...normal wear and tear, the checklist, lights, horn, oil and
fluids check, engine sounded great, body and interior still pretty good, radio, windows, door locks, handles all working. Why didn't I notice the issue with the odometer. It's not moving forward. the speedometer is working fine, just not the odometer. So after researching, I am looking at the problem possibly being the automatic transmission speed sensor located on the automatic transmission. Either that or the ECM is out. Hopefully not. The part does have listing online. Tomorrow I'll check the fuse, possibly test continuity to the sensor. After that I'll replace the part. Does anyone have any advice for the issue, speedometer sensor, or similar experience. Thanks, Josh

Oh yeah, the fault code was stored, and I did plug my obdII scan tool in to find out that the fault was listed as the odometer sensor.

What was the code? I'm surprised to hear of such a plenary sensor given all the posts I've read.
Unplug this sensor, drive, replug this sensor before inspections, sell car for more money....SIMPLE!

Very good post, but I would be afraid to share this on Internet, it will give ideas to some dishonest people about how to falsify the mileage.

The actual mileage on the car will be stored in the ECM, DIM, or CEM, I don't remember which one, regardless of what the odometer reads - Not quite sure what happens with the odometer sensor (?) faulty.

If I am not mistaken it read 0740, I'm going to double check and verify the code. It's hard to believe that the sensor would fail. That's a good idea to unplug and retest.Georgeandkira wrote: ↑27 Aug 2019, 06:29 What was the code? I'm surprised to hear of such a plenary sensor given all the posts I've read.

On the other side, this being a 2002, not impossible the DIM to be faulty - yet to see one with a stuck odometer, who who knows..
