96, 850 N/A hesitation issue

Post by Danonly55 » Sun Sep 01, 2019 9:32 pm

I searched the forum and found nothing for my particular model, The car started hesitating at idol and during acceleration. The red arrow showed up on dash but then went out. Car still didn't feel right. Yesterday I reset the #2 O2 sensor code and drove it about 3 miles with no issues. Any Ideas where I should start ?

Good call from greg850r. Replace those crumbling, 20 year old rubber vacuum hoses ...

Every 30,000 miles you should evaluate ignition parts on a P80

Spark plugs (replace if they are Cu type, regap expensive type where possible)
wires
Coil
Distributor cap
Rotor

Those last two should be shiny copper clean and bright on all metal parts

I have replaced all ignition parts less than 2k miles ago, I ordered a PCV system kit today, It's due anyway.

Ok I just hooked up the OBD reader and started the car, The code it's throwing is 0102 not sensing air flow, looks like I may need a MAF sensor also?? Car did not want to stay running, Had to feather gas peddle to keep running.

p0102 may be a bad MAF or very commonly, a vacuum leak. Usually the rubber elbow behind the corner of the intake manifold, on the passenger side. Called "line 3" in that link up above.

To test the MAF, unplug it with the car off, then start it up. Without a MAF the ECU will go into default air:fuel mixture, running a little rich, but should run just fine if the MAF is the problem. This will set a MAF code which you'll need to reset after the test.

Ok great I will give that test a try and also check the #3 vac line. I'll keep ya posted. Thank you

I performed the test, and it acted as you said. The #3 vac line looked and felt in good condition.
