'01 S60 ECM-6440, New VVT Solenoid Didn't Fix

Post by bmdubya1198 » Mon Sep 09, 2019 7:26 pm

I'm now on my 3rd VVT solenoid, still have the code coming and going. ECM-6440 signal too high. I've checked the wires, and I soldered the wires in correctly, so that's not an issue (used solenoid from a newer 2.5T, I wasn't going to pay for a new one if I don't know if it's the problem).

I can't figure out what's wrong... it runs pretty well, the only thing I notice is that the AC relay seems to click on and off (even when the AC is off) but it runs smoothly with no hesitation or anything.

Anyone have a 2001 S60 wiring diagram for emission control? I have a 2002 diagram, but the 2001 is a special year... just my luck!

Two years ago my 01 V70 2.4T threw a PO1332. My 2001 is an earlier build car with a different styled VVT solenoid, also with a different wiring plug. I took the "junk yard" solenoid (also a 2001 but later) and as much wiring as I could......and think I just matched up the electrical plug "1" with the "1" on the other connector. I ignored the different wiring colors and went with the numbers on the connectors.
Maybe one of the colors matched up. Sorry I can't remember.

Same with mine, I had the earlier style solenoid with the straight connector. Good to know they're compatible, that was a small worry of mine.

Tracked down a 2001 diagram fortunately. I'll double check my wiring today just to be 100% sure, but I think it's correct after checking signals.

Checked fault tracing in VIDA once again, and it shows the cam angle adjusting as it should, but the code is still present and the CEL is still illuminated.

Next problem... when I clock the test function in fault tracing, I can hear a relay click under the dash, but I don't know what it is. I can't feel exactly where it is. Maybe it's the OBD2 port, but I don't think so.

Checked signals at the connector... 12V on pin 1 (supply wire) and about 2.42V on pin 2 (signal wire to ECU) which is PWM, and should fluctuate up to battery voltage and down to about 0.5V, I believe.

Anyone have any ideas? This is driving me nuts and I want to get this fixed and sell this car finally... I need some more driveway space!

It’s a Volvo. I wouldn’t trust one of those $35 eBay solenoids I was seeing when I searched.

Terminal 2 on the ECT, the AC pressostat, and the MAP sensor on the manifold all share the common bus voltage with the cam solenoid ( “cam reset valve “ in Volvo speak)

Key to position 2, check all those voltages at the connector pins

Pin 1 on the solenoid goes to A5 on ME7, I’m not sure what you are running ona S60 that year.

According to my diagram, it goes to A13 on this car. 2001 is a weird year... it switches to A20 (I think) on 2002. This car is still ME7.

I'll check it over. I believe the purge valve and TCV are on this same circuit as well. Interestingly, the front O2 sensor isn't showing a reading when I check on Torque Pro. It is indeed plugged in, and the fuse is good. I feel like these issues are related.
