Finally happened to me on hot/humid day on drive to work: Limp mode which went away after car cooled off for drive home. Pretty sure it's the 2001-2204 CEM overheat issue and want to do the chip heatsink and shield removal. I think the size for the big chip is 22mm as mentioned in posts, but what is the size for the flash chip others have mentioned but didn't see a size for it. Want to do both while I'm in there. Might even put in the box fan for good measure since it's already exhibited problems.
Thanks for the great inputs!
J.D.
What size heatsinks do I need for CEM?

Did you get codes when went into Limp mode? I have been having limp mode on hot days on 2001 V70, have not heard that 2001 models had known CEM over heat issues. My codes indicate a problem with Canbus signal to ETM.

For heat sink size and details see:

Lots of info here on what and where to buy.
For my situation, after many times of hot start failures and limp mode, I will be getting Xemodex to remanufacture my CEM. Today it failed to idle without surging after cooling over night at CEM temperature of only 74F. I removed the CEM this morning and contacted Xemodex.
