Has anyone been through this process of replacing broken odometer gears? I recently discovered my replacement gears in a hidden parts stash.
Looks like a lot of very careful steps.

Been there, done that. I prefer lifting the entire dash so I don't have a problem with the fitting at the right side of the center console.
There are a lot of steps, but none very difficult. You will need some small torx tools, a T10 and T8? First, get the correct odometer reading from the instrument cluster using OBD. Port A-7.
Remember to keep the key out of the ignition and lower the steering wheel and pull it back as far as possible.

If I had a larger garage, I could have more Volvos.

Thanks - I'll check on T8 size. Is a 1/4" socket or a screwdriver the better tool? I have a 1/4" flex driver for tight spots.
I've seen something about being able to look up the odometer reading there. Can you add the miles back on to the odometer?

It's funny, it used to be that a big chunk of active members on the forum had done the odo gears, now with the P80s retiring it is probably very few.
You're not lifting the entire dash - just the top dash pad. But I agree, remove the dash pad don't bend it. At this vintage bending it may crack it. It may crack anyway, go easy on the dash pad and support it when lifting.
Socket ratchet, screwdriver, it doesn't really matter. These fasteners are all easy to access and lightweight.

You can replace the broken gears and manually turn the odometer to correct the mileage. It could take a while thought.

Are you using a drill with a pencil eraser in the chuck? Or even better yet a drill press, just go easy on the pressure.
