Just Bought My first Volvo for 600 bucks!

Post by StrokerAce »

Hi everyone. I'm here for the first time as a Volvo owner. I happen to luck out and find a awesome 2000 V70 XC with only 152,000 miles o. Her. I'm not familiar with options and all. All I can say is that it seems like it has alot of creature comforts. It runs and drives like new. Hope to drive it for a long time coming. Take Care..

Nice dude! Make sure timingbelt, waterpump and rollers was "recently" replaced. If not, just do it right away for piece of mind.👍

and don't forget about the PCV system. This could be due for a cleanup at this mileage. Search for the glove test to find out if necessary.
But as stated before, the timing belt is high up on the priority list since these are interference motors.

otherwise, enjoy the ride.

one more thing: since this is an xc, be aware that these first gen Volvo AWDs require all 4 tires to be exaxtly the same size amd diameter, you could ruin the drivetrain easily by mixing tires.

See the “ bastards” thread in the FAQ sticky up top of the forum for the special items about the 1999-2000 cars.

They are for superior people, course. Prince wrote a song about mine.

I love my 2000 XC. That being said, you've gotta be willing to do a lot of learning, and spend some good time/money on this thing. I've kept mine going so long for partly sentimental reasons, but mainly because it is such a great car, comfortable and capable when it's in top shape. Things will go wrong with it though.

Good luck! I'm always available for PM/email about the 2000 XC. Almost every repair there's to be done on this car I've either done or know/researched about when a shop did it.

Everyone loves a bastard until the Italian throttle body poops the bed....at 152k miles you are somewhere between 0-50,000 miles of nirvana

I have always liked the wheels on your car. To me they look like interlocking gears.

All the above posts pointed to potential work you might have to do on the car. The good news is there is a wealth of information on this site to do all of the jobs mentioned above. This site + youtube allowed me to do all the jobs (and more) on my 1999 s70.
I wish I had paid $600 for min. I paid just 2x that but then (like other have suggested) put another $2k into it doing my own repairs.

But I enjoy that sort of thing (contrary to what my family members might tell you.)
Car looks great btw.

Oh and seriously.. $600? was that a family friend or something? Most $600 volvos down here are in the category of "Needs transmission but body is great" or "Timing belt broke but you my mechanic says that part is just $40" .

Then again.. if I could find cars that looked like that for $600, I'd be in big trouble.

You get the cheap Volvo’s in the high rent districts, I’ve found. Grifters and flippers jack up the prices while money/ brain people sell the old reliable car for a pittance to someone who wants it cheap.

I know my T5 will go to someone who will cherish it rather than the top dollar
