PMs are hanging up in the outbox. here it is.

Hello Abscate. Thanks for your assistance with my stalling/cutting out issue on my 00 V70 SE. As I suspected, the fuel pump relay did not solve the issue. I do think the ignition switch is the likely culprit at this point as you suggested. If that doesn’t do it I’d be inclined to look at the ECU next but I’d try to get it on VIDA before doing anything there.
You mentioned having a good used Switch. When do you think you’ll be in NJ again? Alternatively I wouldn’t mind paying you to mail it if that is easier.
Thanks,
Marty

They stick in outbox until recipient reads them , unlike email

Can you drop the steering wheel cover and take a pic of the electrical switch?

Three Torx screws, thread here.

so I'm reviving my own thread here, ha. Replaced ignition switch and I still have the same problem. Drive for about 45 minutes to 1 hour (car drives beautifully BTW) then out of the blue the rpms will jump up for a split second and when they come down the car stalls out. BUT now there are NO CODES! I'm going to get it on VIDA ASAP to see what is going on behind the scenes because it doesn't make much sense.I'm now thinking it might be the ECU but I'm not going to replace that before confirming with VIDA. I'm currently using the Blue Driver app with a blue tooth OBD sensor. Works really well for the normal stuff but as we all know, Volvo has to be difficult and have its own proprietary stuff to dig deeper.
Items that were recently replaced to no avail:
ETM - XemodeX ETM replaced under warrranty - did improve engine loping under light load issue
engine managmeent relay (the blue one)
Fuel Pump relay
antenna ring - definitely needed that as at one point in this diagnosis it would not start at all.
ignition switch.

Will update after VIDA scan.Thanks. Marty

Marty

You will have to sort out if it’s on the ignition or fuel side, and this is a tough one,

A problem that takes an hour to present is difficult.

Perhaps try to set up a fuel pressure gauge or at least monitor 12V at the fuel pump and at the injector/ coil Bus

I can’t put my finger on the revving up , how significant does it go up?

Replacing the ECU requires cloning on a 2000, it has to VIN match

When it wouldn’t start, was it a no crank or a start/ stall?

When it wouldn’t start it was completely dead like a bad starter. Replaced the antenna ring, locked and unlocked the car with the key and bingo, started right up.

Yeah this is a tough one. I think I can monitor fuel pressure live through the OBD app so I will try that on my next drive which will be to friend who has VIDA. 😉
Thanks

You are getting a major electrical failure if it won’t crank.

Battery cables
Main fuse box feed
Main engine relay ( right near radiator)

No I think maybe I didn’t make it clear. I was getting the antenna ring OBD code and the car would not crank at all. So I replace the antenna ring and since then it starts up every time. That’s a known failure item especially at 270k.

The antenna ring on ME7 or DENSO engine management doesn’t inhibit cranking, it inhibits spark/ fuel.

If replacing the ring brought it back to life m it’s coincidental, and consistent with an intermittent main power failure

I’ll bet if you unplug your ring, your car will crank.
