Figuring out Trim level

Post by donutV70 »

Hey guys I'm trying to figure out the trim level just to make sure I get the right parts when I start working on it. this is the relevant information I can think of right now.

its a 99 V70 2.5t with an auto tranny, FWD, it had a factory amplified stereo system, sunroof, grey leather sunroof.

let me know if there is any other relevant info or for a way for me to find this, I've tried a couple free online VIN decoders but havent had much luck

Volvo's VIN decoder isn't great for the 99, it will only tell you which engine it shipped with http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/199 ... n1999.html.

It's much better for previous years e.g. http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/199 ... n1995.html.

I don't know much about trims for the NA market (I think they are engine based), but I found this on r/Volvo

So I’ve narrowed it down to being a T5 or a GLT any ideas how I can figure out which of the two it is?

If it's a 2.5 (B5254 engine), it's a GLT.
If it's a 2.3 (B5235 engine), it's a T5.

You can also eyeball the name plate on the turbo, see if it is the small 13t.

E.g. this one is a 13g:

You will have to look at the Turbo, or note the absence of leather steering wheel or trip computer to tell l a T5 from aGLT.
