Hi all,
I am using my father`s Volvo S80 (1999) 2.4 petrol non turbo as a car to go at work, until I finish changing engine chain on my Audi A7 3.0 TDI. Volvo has only 90000 km on the clock, I take care for all cars including the Volvo, it has new water pump, timing belt, serpentine belt, transmission oil, coolant, engine mounts (due to age), spark plugs, synthetic oil, new filters, new brake pads, brake rotor, new brake fluid, new Michelin tires etc. I travel 50 to 70 km each day, and after I enter the highway I check the temperature if warmed up, than I tend to drive it 140 to 160 km/h most of the time, I am noticing that the Volvo engine has to run 2500 to 3500 rpm at those speeds and I don`t want to damage it as my father loves it.
Should I take it easier ?

Re: Volvo S80 2.4 Petrol Non Turbo hard driving
Speedy - That is really moving - basically 87-100 mph. Those speeds would rev most cars at the same rpm.
Safety and laws aside, just plain can the S80 handle it - yes. If the car is in proper order, other than using a larger amount of fuel, it is just a machine.
Curious what your A7 spins at 160km/h.

Thank you for your reply, the A7 if in D and on cruise control at 160km/h runs at 1900 RPM if in S than 2100 RPM, today I noticed that the Volvo isn't hesitating as on first days.

Well you never mentioned it was hesitating. Driving a car long and hard is not bad for them, actually it cleans out many deposits.
I had a Range Rover with an engine tick and it took my daughter cruising at 80mph for 40 minutes twice a day to get rid of the noise. I think one of the lifters had a little sludge. She had it for three months and it came back running noise free. If everything is in order, driving cars that way is good for them in my experience.

Today was my final day with the S80 and I pushed it till max, it went up to almost 250 km/h, then I put it on axle stands wheels off and gave it an 5 hour wash before giving it back to my dad.

Speedy - that is about 155 mph. Impressive speeds for the old lady.
