New member C70 HT Questions

Post by subzerocarfanatic » Sun Oct 20, 2019 12:42 pm

Hello, I am a new member and have some issues with a 2000 volvo C70 HT 2.3 5 Speed manual. I have the ETC light on my dash, I cleaned the original ETM, installed new gasket re installed, still have warning light on, and pulled 2 codes ( P0102 AND P0121), the gas pedal assembly was just replaced, MAF sensor was replaced around a month or so said the guy i bought the car from. I purchased a used ETM that was rebuilt by XemodeX in 2013 i installed it had same no pedal response and idling issues so i put the old one back in. It has an interstate battery in it just turned a year old this month and showing only 11.9 volts. I also done the B+ repair last night that is illustrated on here with images, looks like the one from battery positive to starter is corred bad to though.Any help much appreciated.

Also i cleaned the PCV Valve fire trap canister and related hoses, installed new plugs, flushed coolant installed fresh antifreeze with thermostat and gasket, oil and filter change. Cleaned the 2 sensors on the air duct connected to bottom of ETM, cleaned MAF with mass air flow CRC cleaner.

What’s your issue?

Starting, running, idling, power?

It is running kinda rough, idling lower than it should and last time i drove it to town it almost left me stranded. I had to stop 3 times and kill engine and restart it in order to make it home because there was no throttle response from the pedal at all. I finally cleared the codes with scan tool the last attempt to make it home and that's how i made it home. Codes are P0102 and P0121. I bought a new OEM BOSCH MAF sensor, have not installed that yet because im tracing all wires etc for shorts, bad ground to figure out where I am losing voltage if i am. I purchased a used ETM from a guy,it was rebuilt in 2013 by XemodeX.I called xemodex and 2 different techs said there is no reason it should not work in my car, which is a 2000 volvo C70 HT 2.3 Turbo, the xemodex one i bought came from a 99 same model car. Thanks for your help!!
I wanted to add the XemodeX tech told me the used one built by them i bought does not need to be programmed by Volvo in order to work with my car.It should be a simple plug and play. Should the ETM related warning light on dash(ETS INDICATOR LIGHT) go off when the ETM i bought is installed, or do i have to clear it somehow ,I have an OBD II scan tool.

It’s going into limp mode due to the throttle body being bad, mismatched software, or Bad wiring.

I order those in order of probability

The used XemodeX ETM i bought should be good,it was built in 2013 they told me the C70 Turbos have same software and that it will work in my car so I am keeping my fingers crossed when I install it and the new BOSCH MAF sensor that it fixes my problems and the ETS light, will it go off or does it have to be reset by the trip meter reset button. The help i get on here is invaluable so thank you all who are helping me from the bottom of my heart I APPRECIATE it very much.

You posted you put the Xmodex in and it did not fix it. That’s a 6 year old untested part with unknown history. It’s tough troubleshooting when you introduce more variables.
have the ETC light on my dash
Which light is this ? There is no “ ETC” light I am aware of.

Did you get that battery voltage above 12.5 volts at rest? Bad voltage won’t work on these cars. All day charge and/ or new battery needed.

Yes, battery was charged and was holding charge. I meant ETS warning light, not ETC, the electronic Throttle Control Module light i assume. The ETM is guaranteed good, just have to fix my other issues first so i know for sure it will work. I had the MAF code , i had codes P0102 and P0121. The gas pedal assembly with sensor was replaced with a new OEM Volvo one about 2 months ago., had the plugs out installed new ones and cleaned up the coils individually, put new wire loom and tape around injector wires though i did not Ohm the injectors or check injector harness plugs. Should the injector plugs read 12 volts at one side with key on and if there is no voltage there any ideas what might be the culprit, i will follow the wires best i can. Thanks again for your help.

Go up t the Major Topics Thread and look for the links or path to the wiring diagrams for your car - they are on the web, but by Legal Agreement with Volvo we don't host them here, and Volvo has asked only users to post links/direction to them, so Matt/moderators respect that.

They are easy to find.

The path roughly follows from injectors back to the main fuel relay and then to the fuse box, so it should be hard to trace and find where you are losing the 12V supply to both injectors, and also MAF downstreaM!

All of that troubleshooting will be done on the 12V scale on the VOM - no resistance measurements needed.
