Help Identifying two Parts

Post by nutcase » Sun Oct 20, 2019 7:29 pm

I just picked up a lower mileage (79K) 2005 S60 to replace a 2006 S60 (with even lower mileage) that had been in two separate accidents and it was time to let it go (both by the other person's fault). So, this weekend, I replaced the brakes and the timing belt and accessories belt and assorted items that go along with them.

Over Thanksgiving I will replace the passenger side axle and the front/rear suspension. At which point, it should be like new.

I noticed two items that need my attention. There are attached photos of them.

One is the hose that goes into the top engine cover next to the oil filler cap. What is this hose (what's it called). There is a slit in it and I suspect it needs replacement.

The second I found only after relocating the radiator overflow and power steering reservoir so that I could do the timing belt. It is a picture of an electrical connection on the passenger side on the firewall. There is an unattached plastic piece that didn't make it into the picture but its about a foot long and must cover the connection. What is this so I can look up the part numbers.

Thanks

Your best bet would be to look those up in the Volvo Parts Catalog Diagrams. There are other ones but they are all about the same.

The hose next to the oil cap is part of the PCV system. It connects a vent on the head to the oil vapor separator box on the side (front) of the cylinder block. It's a major air leak in your system.

Thanks for identifying the hose. I now have a part number. It is one of the least expensive things to fix on a volvo.

Now if I can identify the electrical item I will be done (for another week or so).

You should pay about $30 for that hose. If you pay less than that, it won’t last.

The connector looks like one that usually is released when taking out the engine brace, at least on my XC90 2.9T. It just clips in - to keep it out of the way. What I am seeing is electrical tape keeping the loom protector together. Going down the connector wiring is a plastic shield, at least on my XC90, that protects the wiring. That is what I am seeing in the picture. I would just look at it and figure out a way you can keep it secured from any movement, vibration rub, and heat. On the XC90 the plastic has a tab that clips in loosely to the engine brace bar area - it looks to be the same piece.

I am not sure you are missing anything as the top of the plastic is not in the picture. You need to get someone to take a photo of their plastic shield and how it is fitted. If you are missing a piece or it is broken I would source from a junked car.
