Volvo 850 Base Model SRS light doesn't light up

Post by JODiEXRP » Mon Oct 21, 2019 10:07 pm

Hi, I'm new to the forum but have been lurking quite a bit. Ive picked up a tidy base model 850 wagon. I seem to have one prominent issue though. The SRS or airbag check light doesnt light up when the ignition is turned on/turned to second position. I've found one previous post regarding this on this forum, but it wasn't really answered, does anyone have any recommendations/or suggestions on how to remedy this issue? My mechanic has checked if its a bulb ot a faulty fuse but appears those both check out.

Was going to say lamp is burnt out or previous owner took it out. But mechanic checked it out ? How does it pass a mandatory vehicle test with that lamp out?
I would get confirmation he checked the lamp. You’ve introduced a fault now so that would have to be cleared too.
It’s designed to have all the SRS gear working in the case of an accident, might be a trip to the dealer to get a ‘specialists’ opinion - all about the safety now.
Cheaper in the long run to pay for 1 hr dealership charge than 4 hrs of a general guy without the readers etc - just my my two cents.
I am forever haunted by the trauma inflicted by a $50 aftermarket steering wheel (and cheat resistor to fool the srs) replacing the air bag steering wheel to a child driver (17 years old) that was not restrained properly. Sitting low in a seat he removed the rails from and bolted straight to the floor - the seatbelt could do nothing for him. He passed a vehicle check a few months before , but REfitted the illegal mods after the pass.
