Steering wheel removal

I discovered that the vinyl on my steering wheel has a crack and that crack is right where my hand goes. I want to go to the local u-pull-it and grab a replacement steering wheel.

I don't want to go unprepared with tools so what size socket do I need for the steering wheel?

For the 2002 ? It should be easier to unclip it from behind. May find a few tips here www.youtube.com/watch?v=idmPhHNNixI

its between 17 to 19mm, maybe 18mm why not take your socket set?...took me ages to figure out how to remove the steering wheel, dont go prying the centre like i did...look for the torque bolts at the back and underneath.

the video posted above is very good. my 2002 has torx bolts not clips

Assumption..P2 wheel removal similar to P80

You have to have a key for the car to turn the wheel to access the Torx screws which are in the front of the steering wheel ( remember you look at the back of the steering wheel)

They have to be thin, too, as thefasteners are recessed.

I don't know about the P2 but probably the same as P80.

PS: Make sure the battery is d/c'd. Also, wear goggles and keep your head away from the airbag in case it goes off (that 1 in a million chance it goes off)...well, just want to make sure your head remains attached to your body...

I normally have a 3/8 drive socket set in my trunk but I didn't want to get there and discover that it is held on with a 25 mm or 30 mm.
