my TME exhaust drones

Post by Clemens »

After installing my TME stainless steel 2.5 catback exhaust in my 96 R wagon i am getting an annoying drone from the rear in the 2k rpm range. If I can't get rid of this I will have to put the old one back in.
Does anyone of you have an idea how to fix that?

P.S. The build quality is awesome and the spool up time is reduced, it surely flows great.

Downshift... :D

Make sure all the hangers are in place and are not worn or torn. It might help to rehang the exhaust from back to front if you hung it front to back (my manly Beetle likes this)

Thanks! Thomas from TME Sweden got back to me within 3 hours on this saturday morning which is quite amazing. he suggested the same thing as you did, Steve (sounds like a conspiracy to me if two people tell you the same...) and mentioned that the exhaust tip has to stick out beyond the rear bumper a bit. I will give that a shot. Hope that this solves the problem.

I extended the exhaust tip and added a few pounds of dynomat to the spare wheel area and wheel wells.
That helped.
