I haven't pulled it apart yet, but I'm trying to figure out what they might have missed, or what might be worn on the front strut mount.
On the passenger side the plastic cap is missing and the threaded bolt extends far enough that the former owner damaged the hood by slamming it down over the strut bolt.
Is the spring seat or the strut mount damaged? To me that would not explain why everything looks tight, and the nut is so much further down on the passenger side vs the driver's side -looks like it was installed that way.
Passenger side - missing cap, 5-6 threads exposed - has punched through hood insulation and made mark in hood
Driver's side - looks correct to me - only 4 threads exposed - does not tough hood
Damage to insulation/mark in hood - hood does not close properly
What did they miss when they installed this strut? P2 Volvo XC70

Use only Sachs or Rein/CRP spring seat - can order from a local store (autolectra.com sells these in Montreal), or from Eeuroparts - they have a shipping option with all duty fees upfront - https://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/172554 ... r-2015201/ Don't buy Febi, Uro, etc

Turns out it would be a missing #6 from the link above. I find it hard to believe you'd put it back together without that washer, but...
