Tank size only matters if you require continuous (?) CFM @ a certain psi. For a DIY a smaller tank can potentially work. Have to check the Airtools you intend to purchase. I would say a minimum of 2HP depending on the brand.
I recently purchased a cordless 20V Porter Cable Impact gun. My primary use was going to be for rotating tires, the advertised max torque was way higher than it can actually deliver. I don't trust it to deliver the torque required for tightening wheels. How many FT/LBS. have you lost by the time you get to the 20th lug stud. I've basically shelved it and prefer using my cheapo 1/2 Lowes (kobalt) air gun and 20 gal. compressor, I can get 120 psi out it.

I also barely use it. But when switching to studded tires, I would have to switch at least eight tires. Too much to unlock the lug nuts by hand wrench before using the impact wrench for speed. If I could use the power too from start to finish, that will be a plus for me.

The 20 Gallon with 120 PSI delivery is the most ideal for anyone who likes to work on cars. Unfortunately, most DIY'er won't shell out for such a large unit besides space constraints in the garage. When you exceed a certain HP you'll also have use 220V 1PH meaning a new Breaker and Wiring.
I don’t trust the impacts to give me the torque I like on lug nuts. I lube mine so I torque to about 75 Nm
I crack them with a 24 inch breaker ( easy) then use a cordless 125 ft lb Bosch 1/2 to zip off and zip on.
I then do a final nip with the 24 inch on all nuts to my final torque. Hard to describe but I’ve learned the correct tightness where they never loosen, but all of the ladies can loosen them with the car lug nut wrench. The smallest , Abby , uses her foot, while my soccer athlete can twist them off with her fingers. ( badly behaved boyfriends get their limbs pulled off before they get wood chipped)

The 125 ftlb Bosch my kids bought me is a champ for the zipping on and off. If you really want to not use the cheater, I think you will need a pretty expensive 3/4 inch, 12.9 AMP cordless with a very high torque rating
I have an air impact gun, and recently added harbor freights new high flow disconnects. For $5 it's a pretty significant improvement. I never had issue before but after a lot fewer hammer hits before the bolt wizs off.
