Access to Front Passenger Seat Belt on ‘03 S60?

Post by Mathyou »

Hello! I’m looking to replace a frayed seatbelt (front passenger) on my kiddo’s 2003 S60, and I’m not getting too far removing the panels. Anyone have experience? The videos I’m finding online don’t cover her model.

The seats are manual, so I suspect I need to remove the lever handles first. Is this as simple as popping a release (I think I see one, but I can’t get it to budge).

Thanks in advance!

Not sure about the manual seats, but the automatic seats the plastic on the side of the seat rotate up from the back. The hard part is the b Pilar plastic. Be very careful and best do it on a warm day so the plastics not so brittle. I've removed the b-pillar plastic a few times and it's trial and error. Maybe someone knows a secrets.

Sadly, while I can pop the panel up in the back and even shift it around, it appears that the manual levers are keeping it in place near the front. Also sadly, I’m in MN where it’s between 20 and 40 degrees F, so I’m being extra careful!

There's a small torx screw that you need to undo first.

sounds like the setup is different to a xc70, are you sure you cannot see the single torx bolt from the rear of the seat. Also the pillar trim is easy to break, on the xc70 you simply pull it out from the clips. Remember the seat belt has electrical tensioner, from memory i think like SRS airbag stuff there are some precautions on dealing with those in terms of swapping from car to car.

I’m away from home for a few days, but I’ll look when I’m back and post a pic if I can’t find the torx screw. Thanks for the help so far!

Wanted to loop back in case anyone else has this issue. The plastic handles come off by release. There’s a notch that needs to be lifted up - I used a thin, flathead screwdriver - and pulled off. Once they were both off, the panel popped up then off as seems standard. The belt itself has a metal button that needed to be depressed, then slid off.

My issue now is removing the B pillar to access the upper seatbelt. It doesn’t seem to come off like other models (no obvious release). So pry tools are ready!
