Wiper Arm Cover/Cap Removal Technique

Post by wanderdüne »

I'm wanting to switch out the complete wiper arms from my 2003 parts XC90 to my 2006 XC90 mostly because I have a ton of blades that will not fit the 2006 arms. Easy, right? No.
I am having a little trouble removing the caps Part# 8662847 that cover the nut on the arms of the 2006. There was only one cap on the '03. Due to this tight fitment and with it being cold; I'm wondering if anyone has a good method or technique to remove these caps without breaking the little tabs underneath. They are more than I want to pay to replace, so I'd like to re-use them if possible.
Thanks

I just pull them off. Looking up the part and seeing the pic - one should be able to pull the sides out and the the square side up and pull towards the round side so the rear tab releases.

From personal experience, if for any reason you break one of the side tabs on the cover and it does not lock back down, a dab of bathroom silicone inside the cover where the nut recesses should keep it on until the next time you need to remove. I replaced mine on the '05 after a few years of keeping both covers on the arms this way.
