2007 XC90 V8 oil pan seal kit?

Post by 640774n6 »

Hello everyone,

I've recently come into the ownership of a XC90 V8. The "no oil pressure" message appears on cold starts and can stay on for as long as 5 seconds. It seems the longer it is off, the longer the message stays on. I've tried changing the oil filter housing and oil pressure sensor with no luck so my next option is to drop the pan to check for sludge and change out o-rings/gaskets.

I am trying to find an oil pan seal kit for the V8 and haven't had any luck. I find plenty of oil pan seal kits for Volvo oil pans, but none of them include the V8 in the fitment list. Would the following be compatible with the V8?

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... -reinz-kit

If not, could someone please point me in the direction of a kit that is compatible?

Thanks!

The oil pans are sealed only with gray rigid (AKA, high torque) RTV sealer. Permatex makes it as well as others.

That is good to know, Thanks!
Most kits I've found for other Volvo's contain the required Volvo Anaerobic Sealant.

Still not sure where to get the required o-rings/gaskets for the suction tube, dipstick, return tube, oil cooler, etc. Haven't been able to find a kit containing all the required items that is compatible with the V8.

Enter your car info here: https://www.volvowholesalepartsdirect.com/
There are diagrams on the site; you will be able to get all the P/N's for the o-rings etc.

Yeah I can do that. Was hoping there was a kit so I didn't miss any of the o-rings/gaskets. I'll give it a try.

One of the other posters is correct, it's a sealant, not a gasket for the oil pan. It's the same sealant as used on the timing chain cover.

Volvo indicates it's part number 30757050 "Sealant". That's no longer available from the dealers.

FCP sells an equivalent, Wurth product 08933211. I used it on my timing cover. It was expensive and 10X more than what I needed, but it was the right stuff.

Permatex also makes an "Ultra Black" which is supposed to be equally impervious to oil. I will probably try that if I have to do it again.

Good luck!

This Toyota "Formed In Place Gasket" is the best sealer that I know of. It's inexpensive picked up at the Toyota dealer. A Mercedes Tech recommended it to me to re-seal the cam covers on my E320 several years ago and it's really good.

Yeah I feel pretty solid on how to seal the actual pan. I’m mainly looking for the o-rings and gaskets of stuff to change once I’m in there. Can’t find much info on the V8.

I am also running in to the same problem with my oil pan. I looked at VIDA and seems like a pretty involved work.
I see that the exhaust manifold need to come out sub frame dropped and engine held on hoist.
Does any one know we need to follow all the steps mentioned in VIDA to achieve this or are there any expert shot cut to replace the gaskets/orings.
