Brake light issue, need advice 98 v70

Post by default »

Ok those is going to be a little weird.

Not long after I got my car I turned off the drl, because why not.

I noticed that when my headlights are on, I’ll occasionally get the bulb failure light to flash on when I hit the brakes. Doesn’t stay on, just blinks quick enough for me to notice, and doesn’t happen every time I hit the brakes. One day I had my wife hit the brakes while I killed and didn’t see any brake lights at all, so I immediately replaced the bulbs thinking they were the culprit, but they weren’t.

Now, whenever this happens I look to see if the lights are lit (usually I can see the 3rd brake light reflecting on trim) and I tap thee pedal again to try to make them come on.

I’m starting to suspect the switch is fucky but could it be at all related to the drl settings?

Thanks!

Check the harness going to the rear hatch - you may find broken wires in it.

In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.

Is there a guide on that someplace? Or a specific place to look? I’m really leery about ripping into this trim if I don’t need to

Edit: that actually makes a little sense considering my rear sprayer only works when it wants, although the wiper is fine

Edit 2, found the RobertDIY video on it, that man is a blessing

Right above the rear driver's side speaker between that harness and the inside of the actual hatch. In my case I found the rear defroster grid's positive wire was dead and another wire that I cannot remember but I replaced it too.
