1993 Volvo 240 wagon roaring sound from rear

The problem: very occasional roaring/grinding /rubbing sound seems to be coming from right rear of car. Happens mostly when it is cold outside. Starts roaring/grinding from the rear and then stops when I accelerate or stop the car and then go again.
Then stops.

Sound happens mostly as I first drive away after first few minutes Happened one year ago then happened again when it snowed. Noise stops when I stop the car and then go again. Noise happened when it was extremely cold this past week then not again till today when it was cold again. When I stopped car restarted did not happen again. I ride around with my recorder on in my phone so that i record it because mechanics tend not to believe me that noise is happening since they cannot reproduce it.
Please any thoughts I want to be able to say to mechanic what I think it is. Possibly.
Car drives so well otherwise.

Have you changed the oil in the axle? Also have the driveshaft checked. Maybe one of the joints is on it's way out. June

Maybe the linings on the emergency brake shoes sticking within the hubs of the rear brake rotors. The linings can dislodge from the shoes completely.
