Im contemplating replacing my timing belt. Several shops and dealer are quoting $900-1500 for parts and labor. I have done several timing belts on a 1995 850 and a 2006 S60 T5, neither car was very difficult. Anything different or more difficult with the 2012 S60 T5 as I have not been able to find much information online and the Chiltons DIY is virtually useless also. Looks like the motor mount on the passenger side is different and will require the engine to be supported on that side.
In the 850, I replaced the water pump only once and in the previous S60 I never did. I drove the two cars for a combined 600,000 miles. Any comments on the water pump longevity on the newer Volvo engines?
Thanks in advance.

The 2006 S60 was a 2.5 T not T5.
Thanks,

Completed timing belt replacement. Not much different than the previous 4 belt replacements. Due to the problems I experienced in the previous timing belt replacement on an older S60, with the exhaust camshaft moving so readily, I purchased a cam-lock tool which was very helpful. Also on the 2012 S60 its very difficult to get a straight line of sight for alignment between the rear camshaft timing mark and the cover. What I found very helpful was someone mentioned on another forum that there are 18 teeth on the belt between the two camshaft timing marks. This also was the first time that I had to remove the crankshaft harmonic balancer and with a 3 jaw puller it came off readily.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,
I have a 2013 Volvo T5 S60 that is coming up on 100K. I havent been able to locate any MOP's (method of procedure) on it either. So I'm going to get quotes from the local Volvo specialists and if that makes me vomit in my throat, I'll tackle it myself. Last one I did was on an '04 2.5T. Which cam lock tool did you purchase?
Regards,
Eric
