where is transmission drain plug for 2002 s40

hi looking to drain and change fluid for 2002 volvo s40 automatic 1.9 litre engine
enclosed is a pic where i think might be the transmission drain plug..not sure,,if so bracket is in way so cant use socket,,looks like an ajustable i have to use,,as well read on the net ,,it should be a 24 mm nut correct

Drain plug is 24mm.

Don't take it out at first, just loosen it and let the fluid trickle out. This way the fluid does not hit the bracket, fly all over the place and make a big mess.

It might take an hour to drain 4 quarts but compared to cleaning a mess, it is good time management.

thanks for info..from my enclosed pic,,does that look like the transmission drain plug...im guessing there should be only one 24mm plug around

Yes, that looks like it. I posted a photo of it years ago here, but can't find the post right now.

I usually make a aluminum foil trough and place it under the drain and above the crossmember to avoid a mess. It's worked for me.

Re. another of your comments...I would NOT try to use an adjustable wrench on the drain plug. There's too big a chance of rounding it off.
Use a proper sized box wrench instead. You may want to have a new drain plug washer too as the one in the photo looks like it could use replacement.

Be sure to use Mobil 3309 (or equivalent) fluid only.
