2011 XC90 3.2 AWD auto 162K Stall and no Start
We have a fairly recently acquired 2011 XC90 3.2 AWD auto w/162K my daughter was driving home and it started to run rough and stalled out on her. I tied to start it and it cranks a couple times and stops. Checking the OBD codes I get a P0301 and a P0351. Any advice besides check plugs and coils? Could a bad coil actually cause a complete no start (and the stall out)? I thought it's weird the way it only cranks a couple times too. Thanks for any help.

Just to add, both P0301 and P0351 were pending codes.
Im not sure swapping coil location will tell me anything if I can't get it to start.

A bad coil would not cause a non start. Do you mean, you hear the engine turning (cranking) then it stops ? Doesn't it happen not to crank at all when turning the key ? The battery and all power connectors are clean and tight ?
Swapping coils location won't help as long as the engine doesn't fire. To find a bad coil , see this www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDwtZCWU7u8

Yes, it seems that fuse #10 (20A) in the engine compartment is blown - so no coils getting juice and no start. I replaced it but it blows again right away. I tried changing it to see if I could limp it home, but no so I had it towed. I've seen a few posts where people had a bad coil pack that caused that fuse to go so I'm hoping that's it. I'll see how much the coil is at the dealer or order from FCP tomorrow.

The coil on cylinder 1 was definitely bad... and melted in several spots. Replaced it, replaced fuse 10 and the XC90 is back up and running.

That was quite melted, good find! Worth having a spare one inside the trunk at these miles. I would also replace the spark plugs if they are old (they can also cause a coil to go bad)

The Thermostat is a know failure point in the 3.2 and they typically fail around 100,000 miles or 10 years
When the thermostat fails there is some evidence that the higher engine temperature can lead to coil pack failures.
I recommend that you replace your thermostat some time soon.
If you do let us know if it was broken.

One last thought; the Thermostat isn't that hard to change on the XC90 you likely won't even need to remove the intake manifold.
Take care

150,000 miles service takes, belt, tensioner, pulley, water pump, ps pump, all filter and fluid change, and more.
