Just an observation, but P80s are getting thin on the ground at P&Ps.
Fewer and fewer each time I go back to Harry's in Hazelton, and frankly, there weren't a ton of P2s either.

Fair amount of p2s at my local pullapart, they got the first 850 I’ve seen in a while a week ago, but no time to see it till this weekend.

I've asked about p80's at my local LKQ and they say that even if they get one in, it's often wore out. Other problem is demand is low as few folks have them. With no one needing parts off of it and they don't want it taking up space, it goes to the crusher pretty quick.

- The P80 (1993-2000) is anywhere between 20-27 years old.
- My 1998 S70 GLT died at 190K from a burned valve #3 and trans losing reverse.
- My guess is that; given the age of the car, out of 100 from the factory, only 5-10% are still in service. The other 90-95% have died.
Just guess, my number maybe wrong...

They have certainly dried up overall, but they come in bursts... just like anything else that isn't your run of the mill Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. There will be none for a while, then the junkyards will get a burst of 5 or so P80s. That's how it goes around here, anyway.
Turbo P80s would be nice... it seems they're always NA. Then again, the more that get junked, the less there are available to buy. So it's a double edged blade unfortunately.

For what it's worth, I find almost no useful parts on any P80 cars in junkyards anyway. The interior plastics are too brittle to salvage and what engine and electronic parts do wear out should probably be purchased new.
There's a Volvo specialty junkyard/mechanic ~30 miles away from me, and that's the only place in the entire LA area that had a 2.3 motor I wanted.

I can still find nice alloy wheels, roof racks, doors, hoods, rear gates, trunk lids, rear lenses, mirrors, and a whole bunch of other stuff in my preferred yard. For example, there is a V70 there with pristine, and I mean pristine body work in silver/pewter and one with a complete 3rd seat. Good front and rear bumper covers and rocker trims too, so. .
If I needed an intake manifold from a P&P car, I wouldn't hesitate. Fuel injectors, ditto. There's lots to be harvested from a clean P&P car-- washer pumps, sunroof motors, etc. Sunroof panels, I could go on.

I'm half and half on that. There are lots of things like intake manifolds and the like which are just fine still, but a lot of things that are shot. A local full service junkyard just posted an S70 on Craigslist and nearly EVERY piece of interior trim was destroyed. The car was pretty useless!
Also goes for the rare and unique parts... it's really hard to find the things I really need, or things I know that people want. I've been looking for a '98+ M56 P80 for months and months now... haven't found one.

There are quite a few p2's in the two main junk yards around the Minnesota Twin Cities, but like elsewhere p80's here are pretty scarce. I didn't see one for almost a year until last summer, then several came in. I have 3 850's, which is why over the years when they were plentiful I harvested a fairly large inventory of parts. I had the time and honestly I found it kind of fun to load up all the tools and go see what I could find when a couple came in.
MAF's? Got 3 extra, nearly new. Brake cylinders? Lost count (I check them for leakage and piston freeze before taking). Even got a couple of front brake lines and a newish power steering line. Some body parts, nice set of alloy wheels for my base wagon. Clean lift gate that I might use on my base some day. Clean fenders, one each for the base and the 93. PS pump. Worm clamps, headlight bulbs. Lots of other stuff I'll probably never use.
Two of my 850's are MT, the one that's automatic seems to work well. Bringing them all back to good functionality was a hobby. Less time for that now and fortunately they don't need much attention.
