2000 C70 Oil Pan reseal

Post by subzerocarfanatic »

I crawled under my car for the first time and wow...there is literally oil everywhere, pan appears to be leaking, the turbo oil cooler box on the back side appears to be leaking, not really sure what all else is leaking. I managed to tackle what i would consider the worst oil pan removal job I have ever tackled, anyway the pan is off and all cleaned up as best as i could, it was covered in grease, gunk road grime, you name it,my main question for now is there is absolutely no evidence of any kind of gasket, sealant or anything at all for sealing the oil pan, surely the O rings alone in the kit i bought are not what seal the entire pan! I bought a tube of VICTOR REINZ pan sealant, but decided to research a bit more before using it, I will attach a image of my parts for t he job, should i get the Anaerobic sealant instead of what i have?Question, can the 2 big turbo oil cooler orings be reused because the kit did not include those two.

I chased an oily engine mess for 3 years?

A $5 o ring on the turbo oil return line gave me a dry engine. That oring let’s oil hit the driveshaft which sprays it everywhere

Volvo, loctite , or permatexbrand sealants, the anaerobic kind, are all good,

Thanks abscate, very helpful as usual, can you give any thoughts as to why there is no evidence of any type of sealant on mine coming out, nothing on the pan or the block itself! Just curious.

It’s a very thin layer of sealer but there should be evidence of it, almost like a discoloration of the metal.

More is not better with this stuff, it just needs to bridge the imperfections between block and pan.
