Shocking saffety test for the XC90

Post by oragex »

I was thinking sharing this in the S60/V70 section to reach more people. Stats reveal that in the UK, since it's launch in 2002/03, no fatalities have been recorded in the XC90. And yes, there are plenty of XC90 that have been sold in the UK https://www.carthrottle.com/post/britis ... -16-years/

Impressive. It IS big, so that helps in any confrontation, but there are many other big suvs with accident deaths I'm sure. This reminds me of that XC60 being launched sideways out of a Volvo test warehouse. It flips sideways many times and only manages to break the mirrors, a headlight, and crack the windshield.

My wife's 2016 XC60 wasn't involved in accidents, but both mirrors are broken: wind simply folds them. Crappy sales department-driven engineering.

Said above is nit, but we had to replace master brake cylinder when the car was a year old. You may have 10 safety radars and 20 airbags, but if the car can't stop because of the fault in the very base brake system - it all does not matter.

On the other hand, I had a radar failure in my new 2019 Toyota Tundra. so I keep fixing my old XC70 that does not have radar et al =)

They removed the suicides from the Honda, Kia, Subaru, and Toyota models from those stats. Driving an appliance is directly linked to self harm. The zombies driving the Lexus and MB were also arguably classified as “ living”

Good point, Steve. If a person drives a Lexus RX300, they're not really living anyway, so the stats are skewed.

As Archie Bunker would say,"I never thought of that" but great point! God knows how horrible driving a appliance would be... Luckily the guys on Neutral Drop know what to do to those pesky appliances!!!    June

Higher priced vehicles may have lower crash stats....since upper income folks are more concerned with liability aspects (being sued), their "wellness," and they tend to be more "educated."

What Does New Data Reveal About Link Between Income Levels and Car Accidents?

..
The new research indicates that fatality rates among people ages 25 and older with less than a high school education have increased over time, while the biggest declines in car accident fatalities have occurred among the most highly educated.

Liability isn't much of an issue here in Europe since the mandatory base insurance covers damage on anyone else if you're held responsible. But absolutely care of the personal well being is relevant.
