2008 XC70 Add a Key - Anyone familiar with TDB1000?

Post by cbdbcbdb » Fri Jan 03, 2020 6:33 am

Just bought a 2008 XC70 and it only came with one key (fob). I always like to have 2 keys for my cars so I called the local dealer and they couldn't even give me a complete quote for a new key. They could quote the cost of the parts, cutting the emergency laser-cut key and the cost of the fob itself, but they couldn't quote the labor required to program the key/car. He just said to assume it's about an hour worth of labor at $120/hr. The parts totaled $210. So for a mere $330 +tax I can get a new FOB.

This is ridiculous! I only paid $2800 for the car, so one key is 13% of the car. Bonkers.

What are my other options? I could easily purchase a VIDA/Dice setup for that, but after some searching it looks like that won't do the programming.

I saw this youtube video for a device called the TDB1000 that plugs into the OBD2 port. Looks like it takes a long time (like 5 hours) to gather information from the car (unattended), but it can actually program FOBs. Anyone heard of this?

Thoughts? Advice?

Thank you!

The TDB1000 is ~$700, it looks like you need separate software for Volvo for another $555.00 that $1255 total.

Other Options:

Go to a Locksmith, recently another member got a cloned key for $85.00.

VDASH can crack the CEM PIN on a P3. On average it take 8 hours but can take up to 24 hours to crack the pin number. Once the pin is cracked, VDASH Add can / remove ignition keys and remote controllers. There may or may not a charge for for key and fob.

When PIN cracking with VDASH, the key must be on. You will need a battery charger that can deliver at least 12 Amps. You will also need to be connected to the internet the whole time.

Thanks! Great info.

It would be great to get a cloned key for $85! I'll call some locksmiths in my area. VDASH might be fun to have too. I'll check that out as well.
