98 v70xc turbo upgrade: additional tasks?

98 v70xc turbo upgrade: additional tasks?

I've read the xc has the 13g turbo and can accept the 15 and 16T turbo. Can the XC accept an 18T? Along with the turbo, what else needs to be updated for the larger turbo to be effective? Exhaust manifold, ECU? Ive heard the NA intake manifold/ throttle body are good upgrades for the turbo models. Hole needs to be tapped for extra vacuum line. Can someone please enlighten me with the details of these things and anything important for a 16T upgrade? If the topic already exists, can I please get a link?

I upgraded my 2000 XC with a 16T. Also done was cold air intake, Snabb intake piping, 3" downpipe, RIP kit, and dual exhaust system (all on a 280K car, haha!). The ECU was tuned by Hilton Tuning (mine is ME7, yours is a 98 so a bit different, I'm not as familiar).You definitely need a tuned ECU to take advantage of the turbo, or else you're wasting your time.

16T is a good compromise without having to do a lot of work. I'm running my tune with about 16 PSI and all seems well. More than that I think would be pushing it without some engine work, although the LPT engines are very robust. That being said, the 99-2000 engines are updated and can handle more than a 98.

Also, hello from Oklahoma as well. If you're near Tulsa, I know a shop that is legit and can help with repairs/upgrades.

Somewhere I read that a t5 ECU was used with the 16T turbo on a non-T5 V70. Can I use the T5 ECU? Although I do understand mine is the 2.4, not the 2.3. Yeah mine comes with the Motronic 4.4 or whatever they call it. Is there a budget-minded way to get a good tune for a 16T upgrade? What does LPT stand for? You've got dual exhaust? Does that mean you got 2 exhaust manifolds on 1 side or just 1 exhaust that splits after the cat? I'm a long way from Tulsa, from anywhere for that matter. In between Dallas, Tulsa, OKC, Ft Smith, and Texarkana. Antlers.

Budget-minded way for a 16t upgarde: get white injectors and a 98 T5 ECU from the junkyard, make sure the emissions on your car match the donor car so you don't get a constant CEL.

Another budget-minded way but a little more complicated: get white injectors and any m4.4 turbo ECU from the junkyard, then tune the ECU to match the emissions equipment on your car.

Oh and blue injectors are the same as whites, but whites are more plentiful at the junkyard.
