Inner Tie Rod end Size
I can't seem to find out,can anyone tell me what size the big nut end of the tie rod is where it screws in to the steering linkage, i rented the tie rod removal tool that had 2 size end nuts with long extension, neither size fit, both were to big, one was 1" 3/16 and the other was 1" 5/16 i believe that is the sizes they normally come with, I need to know what size tool i need to remove it. Thanks

Re: Inner Tie Rod end Size
I found out, 1" 1/4 exactly. For anyone else doing this job, the inner tie rod removal kit has the long extension pipe with one end made like a socket, the end sockets that come separately for the kit come in 3 sizes ( 1" 3/16, 1" 5/16, 1" 7/16 but none of them will fit the C-70. I will try and do a write up on this and a few other things i'm working on in my 2000 C-70 Convertible to hopefully help others in the future, this forum has been the most helpful forum i have ever used for automotive help in all my years so i want to contribute back.

Re: Inner Tie Rod end Size
As you can tell the LH (drivers side) inner tie rod has a red graphite sleeve of some sort but up against the tie rod so I could not use my large crescent wrench to break it loose like I did the RH (Passenger side).

Re: Inner Tie Rod end Size
If this is to remove the old tie rod end, then use vise grip or pipe wrench to grip for removal. For proper install of the new part, you may need to make a thin section wrench by grinding an old wrench on the sides.

Re: Inner Tie Rod end Size
I got it off, ended up using a long pipe wrench. Now to send back my new ones sent they sent the wrong inner ones, i have the SMI rack, I think they sent me the ones for a TRW rack. Set me back a few more days darn it.I also seen someone else has already done an in depth write up on this subject, i should have figured that, lol.
