1997 850 ABS Question module test

Post by mecheng » Thu Jan 09, 2020 10:15 am

:? _Happy New Year MVS

My wifes 850 has a rebuilt Midwest ABS module, recently the ABS light has started coming on intermittently. I checked all the sensors and the resistance was in spec. After re-seating the module the abs light extinguishes once the car starts moving but it stays light after the initial engine start.

Is that normal, if so I assume that is because codes have been previously stored?
If not is there a way to erase the code?

Thanks

I think that if you unhook the battery for a while the codes should be gone.
If not, I usually go to the dealer for that.

And, be sure that the connection and wires to the ABS unit are still in decent condition. Last time my ABS light came on intermittently I boticed that the 2 big black wires running to the module have peeling and cracked insulation and are oxidized green. I used WD40 as a temporary fix.

One more thing: if the system voltage drops really low
strange warning lights can come on. I had that even with a running motor, but the starting process must have drained the battery enough to screw up the dash lights.

Sometines my ABS and SRS lights take a few seconds longer than usual to go out.

Thanks all, where are the codes for the ABS stored, in the ECU or somewhere else? Does unplugging the battery reset ABS codes?

Codes are stored in the abs module. Disconnecting the battery won't reset them, the light will stay on when there's an active fault.

Vida doesn't work on 96-98 cars. I use vol-fcr.

Is their a specific Vag Com cable that would work best, I found two different ones:

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/KKL-VAG-COM-409 ... SwGIZcQZw7
or
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/NEW-USB-Cable-K ... 6bf47b29c4

Is their a site for the Vol FCR software? I don't see it listed on ebay.

Thank you

This cable was recommended to me... works fine on my ‘98.

Did you check this site for the software?
