Steering Wheel Adjustment Lever 2009 s60

Lever broke during adjustment and I assumed it was an easy fix. I removed the steering wheel collar with the thought that there was sufficient space to slide the new lever on, but, you can’t. I can’t imagine that the whole dash needs to be removed, but, anything is possible. Have you any experience and can you offer up a solution? Thank you.

I don't think so. I know that at the minimum you would need to take off the dashboard cover which is connected to the top of the steering column, but that's really easy to remove, and the bottom cover is screwed in with three T25 screws. Never managed to take that off completely when I was working on it, but I think that's all you need to do.

Yesterday was a beautiful January day in NY with temps in the 60’s. The perfect day to work on the Volvo. After removing the steering shroud, try as I may I found it impossible to get the lever on the lock assembly since the dash spacing would not allow for it. Not wanting to remove the column over a $20 lever I figured I’d gamble with the lever. I used a hack haw on the lever collar and removed a quarter inch section which weakened the collar stiffness and allowed it to slip on the lock. I also also placed a circular clamp on the lever and tightened it down. It’s works as if new and the clamp is hidden behind the shroud and invisible. Don’t forget to pull the steering wheel out and up to its maximum to improve access.
