Thread Repair of S70 Mechanical Belt Tensioner Bolt Hole. Helicoil, Time Sert, Form A Thread?

About 3 hours to lower / raise the engine

Driveshafts pulled

Subframe dropped

Lower from top with the fender brace- type engine sling. Nice because it keeps the engine close to alignment so it’s easier to put back in.

Things to contemplate replacing

Sub frame bushings , and bolts ( mandatory)
Engine mounts
Tie rod ends
Steering rack boots
Lower control arms
Oil pan and pickup orings
Empty Nester
A Captain in a Sea of Estrogen

To keep your hole drilled square you can use a drill guide plate. This is a thick (1 to 2 inch) steel plate with an accurate sized hole prepared on a good drill press to be precision drilled square with the faces. This guide plate is attached with bolts or other means to the base metal to hold the drill bit square while preparing for the Timesert thread insert. Drill slowly to prevent the drill from following the old hole. It may help to use several drill sizes (and guide plate holes) to work up to final diameter. This also would work for another Helicoil. This will be tedious and difficult to get the hole back square, but it can be done. It will help that the block is aluminum.
