Need info on 850 and P2 driver seats

So I heard that p80 seats are interchangeable. Is this true? Well I'm strongly considering getting a 94 850 turbo. I have 2 seats left from the junk white XC I had last year this same time. But I want to put super comfy seats (at least one for myself) in place of current ones. Are the p80 t5 more comfy than lesser trims? I'm sure the R 'hugs', but is it more comfy than the rest?

Front seats are interchangeable. BUT! Seats from 1998-2000 cars have electrically activating side airbags. SIPS from older cars are activating by impact, they have gunpowder detonator.

Yeah I thought about that. But I think it started in 1999+ because all of the 98 models I've seen and owned have that mechanical one you are referring to. Yeah I figured I could convert the 98 to electric (I'm good with 12v wiring), but then that defeats my liking for the mechanical airbags. Also it would probably be more work and pitb than it's worth. I am actually considering buying the necessary parts to add P2 V70 a/b/c pillar airbags. Also for the last but of my post, do you know if the t5/r models have more comfy seats than V70 xc?

I think the side bolster material on the R seat is different but the seat structure and padding is the same?

Parsing differences in comfort on Volvo seats is a tad incremental.

Nope. EU market cars had mechanically triggered ones until late-97 MYs, then they became electronically triggered. 92-97 are all exchangeable without loss of SIPS or SRS errors.

Both of my 98 have the SIPS instead of the electronic ones.

Latest '97 850 (M4.4 from the factory)...bought brand new....mechanicaly triggered sips airbags.EU market.

Electronically triggered sips airbags started in '97 with introduction of s,v70 cars...since s,v70 started in '97 for EU market and that was transitional year from 850 to s,v70.

850s from late '95 & s,v70 ...both have SIPS(Side Impact Protection System)airbags.....difference is that 850 have them mechanically triggered and s,v70 have them electronically triggered...BUT designations are the same SIPS airbag.

850s from '91-'95 have only SIPS without airbags.
