Awesome!
As for making sure I have the right tutorial, I can be pretty certain that the tutorial from RobertDIY is adequate for my '99, correct? I know whiteblocks are similar so there are plenty of guides to go off of, but I would like to be certain.

Solid cams, no VVT
Mechanical tensioner, not hydraulic like the -1998
So, that tutorial might not pick up on all the 1999 changes.
There is a thread on the 1999 changes in the 'Major Forum Topics' Sticky up top,
Sean in Boston was recently into his 1999 S70 NA for a head gasket - Ill link to his thread.
My favourite young guy is in Charlotte too, and despite his failings of youth Im sure he is one to mix up in with on Volvos.

What does it mean it's married to the cam cover? Wouldn't it be able to be swapped if it could be taken off? Or is that just an extra four hours of work?SuperHerman wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 7:12 pm
You can source new valves for those bent or buy used ones. Pull the part number and see what other engines use it for used. The head is married to the cam cover - so don't go swapping.

No they are married meaning they are machined as a unit. The head and cam cover are to be viewed as one piece.

Re: Timing belt broke, head replacement?
What this means is Volvo factory selected a head and cam cover without the cam bearing bores, glued and bolted them together, and bored the cam bearing holes on both head and cam cover at the same time. This assured perfect alignment of head and cover cam bearings. Another cam cover will not have the cam bearings aligned for top and bottom surfaces.
This machining method assures great accuracy without the problems of using alignment pins while allowing the two surfaces to be separated for service.
