How to remove plastic plug in rear hatch lock cylinder, 2000 V70XC

Post by Richard99 »

Hi,

My rear tailgate on a 2000 V70XC has a black plastic plug in the lock cylinder (see pic). I'm wondering if anyone has been able to remove this and replace it with a lock cylinder from another vehicle, which I would like to do?

As you can see I've already attempted removing from both the outside and inside with no luck.

Thanks,

Hey, I presume you figured this out by now but for other folks here is the answer. Remove the 4 nuts that hold the liftgate handle section in place. On the back side of the plastic plus are 2 round holes about 1 inch apart that have plastic tabs locked into them. I used a set of needle nose pliers to push the tabs in and the plug released out with a light tug.
