2017 V60 T6 R-Design Squealing Noise

Post by JodyMi » Tue Jan 28, 2020 6:15 am

Hoping you all can help.

Wife’s 2017 V60 T6 R Design, barely 8 k miles, has a high pitched squeal sound that occurs at during cool, wet conditions, for the most part.

Rarely does it occur during warm dry days. We joke that it’s a fair weather car.

The sound is similar to a lathe cutting steel and stops when the car is stationary.

We have taken the car back to the dealership many times and they are at a loss. We had the HVAC blower motor replaced and this did not solve the issue.

Half shafts have replaced an still the sound occurs occasionally.

This is a P3 chassis. I have read of fix for P2 vehicles that moves an exhaust flange from the prop shaft.

Is this applicable to a P3 car? Any advice and assistance would be appreciated. We’re almost to the point of trading it, with a handful of lemons!!

Thanks

Your dealer must fix a car under warranty. They have lots of resources to help them fix it. Is it AWD? Not all T6 in 17 are all wheel drive.
All wheel drive uses a rear driveshaft that is hidden above heat shields since the mufflers exhaust pipe are in that area. Not the same problem as a P2 with the pipe bending when you go through heavily wet roads with water splash causing pipe to bend but there can still be temp related contact with moving parts due to dimensional changes with temperature. The parts of that driveline that turn will vary when it is on a lift with wheels off ground. That will allow the noise to be identified as to which part it comes from IF it will squeal for them. Rubber seals on shafts can squeal and spraying lubricant will stop it and let you know which it is IF it makes noise for you to find it.
You need to push this with the dealer.

It is an AWD model and they, the dealer, have yet to duplicate the noise.

The car seems to know when it’s going back to the dealer!

Thanks
