For anyone with this issue, my liftgate would go up fine, but slowly fall back down, and go down fine when the button was pressed, was fixed when I finally replaced the pump with a used one, after replacing both hydraulic cylinders without effecting the issue.
Now, though, the button to make it go down isn't working, so I'm hoping by letting it sit closed for awhile (manually closed it), that will resolve or reset whatever needs to reset. Otherwise, I'll work on that next...

Swapped modules with my old one and the down switch works now, so either the used pump had a bad module or the software in the used module was not compatible with my car.
Interestingly, the tailgate stays up with the hoses disconnected, but if I reconnect the old pump it falls, so the issue may be with the male/female valves on the pump that the hoses attach to, or like someone on another thread suggested, a solenoid in the pump fails to stay closed/sealed.
