What does SW mean on control module mean before part #

Post by aaronlife » Sun Mar 01, 2020 9:30 am

Does it mean software...

I just replaced the hydraulic pump and module on my 2010 volvo xc60 to correct a hydraulic failure. the lift now goes up and stays up, but the down button won't work.

i just noticed that the part #s on the modules are different. the one from my car looks like it was a later model fro 2012. The HW numbers are the same, but the SW numbers are different.

why would volvo change part #s if the cars and parts are supposed to be interchangeable?

would the SW # difference effect the down button?

Original reads: VOLVO 31299156
HW 31218406 AB
SW 31297924 AA
serial # 81048497 10-02

New one reads: VOLVO 31297488
HW 312185406 AB [typo corrected after next response]
SW 31297489 AA
serial # 91006867 09-01

HW = HardWare. SW = SoftWare.

Something not adding up. In 2012 the XC60 went to electric lift.

I cannot find 31299156 or 31297488 anywhere, I think those are vendor numbers.

31218406 is a Volvo part number for the pump control module. I cannot find 31218506 anywhere, I think that is a typo.

You replaced the control module with one that has different software.
I would try moving the old control module with the correct software to the replacement pump.

If you look over the pumps you should find the part number for the pumps. At least one should be 36011246.

Thanks. Update, I guess the used pump had a bad module, I swapped modules with my old pump and it worked, so unless the module wasn't compatible with the car for some strange reason, it was defective.

Yes 506 was a typo. I'll fix that for future readers.

Right, another typo/error on my part, the date code suggested my old one was from 2010, the new one suggested 2009 if those are manufacture date codes, but the serial numbers aren't in order, so who knows. At least it works now. Thanks again.
