random electronic problems

Post by jtopiso »

I've had had some random warnings that go away just switching off and on again (limp mode, traction control...), so I am not worried yet (maybe three warnings in the past 6 months), but I have been investigating a little bit just in case it worsens .

And I found this video, which I think it's worth a look:

I guess it can help some people. I'll try that when I can... no rush!

Unfortunately, it can help in 10% cases only I think. Water damage usually goes deeper inside that you see on the contacts.

Hi Yagger,

How are you? If you don't mind so everyone so everyone can get more info. I'll ask you here on how to approach getting these issues solved.

1) 2003 S80 T6: Purchased with 1 Key and Remote and they both work. How to have 2 more keys cut and programmed? Can I purchase 2 Amazon blanks and send them to you and provide a VIN to cut and program or do I have to send you the original key? Don't need a second remote at this time.

2) 2008 C30 T5: Came with 3 remotes. All 3 starts the car when inserted into the dash but 2 of the remotes have non functioning buttons. Can you fix the remotes or do I have to buy new? Changed the batteries but nothing? Looks something like this.

If possible a rough idea on cost, if unable to provide an estimate no problem? Thanks in advance for your reply.
Blessings,

BKM

There are options for this case actually.
First at all we have to separate works:
1. Need to cut metal blade. (You can ask locksmith service in your area to cut blade, or, you can send your original key to us and we can cut OUR new keys basis on your original blade)
2. Need to program key to immo system. (You can send your CEM, ECM and keys to us, and we will program it to system and check sync between modules for confirm correct immo data, or, if you have DiCE, we can do it online for you)

Special for 2008MY P1 platform, Volvo has a bulletin about this issue. Remote control can lost sync pattern. I think you have exactly this issue. Unfortunately for now, there is only one solution for fix this issue - program new key (NEW key only, not used key). By the way, does your car has "keyless go" system?
Same about this key, we can program it online if you have DiCE. But, you still have to ask local locksmith service to cut metal blade, or send it to us.

About of metal blade cutting: we can offer our keys only, because we use original equipment (same like Volvo) for cut keys and we do not like to cut "noname metal blade" actually.

I sent our offer to your PM.

Hi Yagger,

What is a "keyless go" system. The remote buttons open the door and you have to insert the plastic blade into the slot in the dash in order to start the car. There is a small metal cut key that inserts into the top of the remote for keeping and it is only good for opening the door.

Well, in my case I don't think I've ever had any water damage. So I guess my random errors are due to some faulty contact.

But I am just guessing, and the problems are non repeatable, so very difficult to diagnose.

Another suspect in my case is the alternator pulley: it makes some noise, and I wonder if it can make voltage to oscillate so it creates some electrical glitches.

As I say, in the past 6 months or so, I've had two "limp mode: service required"(*), and one "traction control service required"(*). All of them gone after restarting the car.

I'd appreciate your expert opinion

(*) (I don't remember the exact messages)

Yes, the same for our 19 Atlas. Push button start. Thank you.

I guess I will wait to see if it worsens... a lot! :)

Thanks for the advise

PS: untill recently, I had an old audi (24yr old), and all electrical problems were caused by one of two things: "expired" capacitor, or -more common- cold weld on a relay. I spent like 30min and 5 euros pulling relays, rewelding, changing 2 capacitors, one voltage regulator... and gremlins were gone. That was the advantage of the electronics from the 80's!
