2008 XC90 Restoration from Salvage Spring/ Summer 2020
So I just picked up a 2008 xc90 that's for body damage for sure. There's at least one curtain airbag that's deployed and no key or fob. It's a 3.2 fwd, nothing special but the price was right and was told it runs and drive. I paid $1200 out the door for it. Here it is now and I'll keep this up to date. Just had to save it from being scrapped.

I'm also seeing very bald tires, looks like the owner didn't care much for maintenance. Are you looking to put it back on the road ?

Yes that is the plans so I’ve been doing my homework. It’s the non turbo fwd version with 170k give or take. I have vida/dice and it saved my wallet with my c70, plus I do all my own work.

With a car like that you can obviously source new doors form a salvage yard if you want. But airbags?
Is that a DIY type of job as well? What is the cost on those?
I would imagine but have no idea, that would make rehabbing something like this expensive.
What do you do about keys without an original copy?

In a worst case scenario, getting keys would mean trailering it to a dealer and showing them the new title, then breaking open the wallet.
Is there a shortcut? I don't know.

You can certainly get out ahead for parts but you will need a 3-4K budget to get a good daily driver out of that
Both front and rear need refresh ( see uneven wear on tires)
New two and interior bits won’t be too expensive.
That’s a nice ride once done up!
Drive that 3.2 carefully, no crazy full throttle shifts. Lot of torque on that poor transmission
