What tool do I need to remove power steering pump belt - 06 XC90 2.5T

Help, Advice, Owners' Discussion and DIY Tutorials on Volvo XC90s. The XC90 proved to be very popular, and very good for Volvo's sales numbers, since its introduction in model year 2003 (North America).

What tool do I need to remove power steering pump belt - 06 XC90 2.5T

2006 Volvo XC90 2.5T AWD

Started out as replacing the thermostat and engine coolant sensor - discovered I cannot (at least pretty sure I can't) replace the engine coolant sensor without removing the "lower body" on the thermostat housing and to get at the "lower housing" I will need to remove the power steering pump which when I looked closer actually has a pretty good leak - so now I'm going to do both - thermostat and PS pump.

Watched/read a bunch of stuff online and it doesn't seem too bad, I'm just at a loss as to what tool I will need to loosen the tension on the power steering pump belt to eventually remove it. Do I need to buy a specific tool or can I use something common?

Thank you in advance!

T60 Torx bit and a long ratchet.

If you need more room on the top and have the ECM tool. You can remove the top cover and sides of the ECM box. Then remove the ECM and TCM. If you do this make sure the negative battery cable is disconnected before pulling the ECM and TCM. When reconnecting battery, first turn key to POS II then reconnect battery. Reconnect battery after reinstalling ECM and TCM.

For $13.95 one could get a 13 pcs set of Torx security bits with sizes up to T60.
For $32.95 one could could get a 3 pcs Extendable Ratchet set.

$13.95 + $32.95 = $46.90.
$46.90 - $34.99 = $11.91.
For $11.91 more one could get some tools will do the job the specialized tool does and a lot more.

But I have a job :) And several Volvo's in the family. Not sure why I'd want to buy marginal tools to fumble around with the job when I can buy a purpose-built tool that works great and without interference for the 3 different styles of Volvo tensioners.
