Battery quick disconnect for the XC 90?

Post by Aznav »

Does anyone know if there is such a thing to enable me disconnect the battery without having to spend 3+l minutes moving boxes, coaxing the first cover off, unscrewing three bolts, etc? Man, that would be such a help. Thanks!

There are switches but these usually sit directly on the battery posts. I personally tossed that battery cover long ago (but I don't have boxes inside the trunk) www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMT1RdnkxnY
There is also a power cable inside the engine bay, perhaps above the ABS unit, but not sure if this cuts the power to the entire car - but if so, may try to install a power switch at this place - this will need to be taken care by a professional
I would add, if you go with a switch, get a quality one, not one of those cheap chinese stuff. And we also may want to have the key in POSII when switching the power on/off

A latching disconnect relay requires no power to stay open or closed. A magnet holds it open. A spring holds it closed. Solenoid pull/pulls it in and out of the magnetic field.

You could mount the activation switch in a convenient location, push button operation.

If you want to get fancy, spurge $5.00 more and wait for it to come from China. You can get a remote controlled disconnect relay that will do 180 Amp continuous and surge to 1000 Amps. Looks like standby current is 8 milliamps.
