air conditioning

Post by swedehast » Sat Apr 18, 2020 10:34 am

Good Day Forum !
I have spent some time searching the forums here and other places so I apologize ahead of time if this has been answered already.
My 2004 S60R air conditioner compressor was bad and replaced with new OEM unit from FCP.
I took to auto air conditioning shop to refill, the mechanic is very knowledgeable.
System is charged completely, no leaks, proper pressure
Compressor ( gray wire ) lead is dead.
Fuses are fine, as are the relays
Jumper from empty fuse box terminal runs compressor and cooling starts immediately ( nice ! )
His conjecture is possible bad pressure switch or " other " relay
He didn't charge me anything because system not working ( wouldn't charge me for his time nor refrigerant ) !!!!
HELP ! ( and thanks )

That's interesting.. I'm no expert but does everything else work on the climate module (CCM) unit ? Like the rear defrost, heated seats, etc ? There's a small temp sensor behind the little grid that can go bad sometimes causing various other issues, I'm thinking 'maybe' that's the reason the car doesn't power the compressor. Basically if the sensor fails, it reads open circuit - infinite resistance, which equals to very low temp reading inside the cabin. The sensor can break when touching it (like trying to clean it) or when connecting the car battery (from power surge, so we like to have the key in POS II to have the head lights on right away which prevents from power surge) This is the sensor https://www.ebay.com/itm/2003-2014-VOLV ... 4266146616

Thanks Orangex !
I have not tried any other CCM items, brought home and started disassembly thinking I could chase down where the " grey wire " from the compressor clutch ran. Nada.
I rebuilt the head 18 months ago or so, remember everything working then. But then the AC just started to get weak and I ignored it.
Then the CEM did its notorious meltdown.
So ( since it's a beater but my daily driver, and I didn't want to keep throwing money at it, I just used the AC on floor which generally kept the CEM cool enough to work, until the AC got weak.
I was looking to send the CEM to XMODEX, but fixing the AC was a lot cheaper
Now that the weather is starting to warm up, thought I'd fix the AC and keep nursing things along ( Yes I know this all sounds soooo cheeesy ) ( It IS )
Anyway, not a huge rush but my wife doesn't want me repossesing her Lexus ! ( She can still drive her Tacoma )
I'ts just been a " gomer " volvo. I really miss my 850r that thing was bulletproof !

Hi Again All
I looked over the post from dj_V70. Very informative
I've looked over the wiring diagram for a 2000 s60, is the '04s60r really any different ?
The compressor lead " runs through " relay FM11 " and fuses in positions 8 and 11, both test ok. ( Like I said when I jump 12v direct to compressor clutch it operates well. )
So it seems to me I need to locate the " high pressure / low pressure " switches
Location ?
Also possibly the thermistor mentioned by oragex ( any way to test that ?

djv70 mentions a pressure switch " on the firewall ", where is that located on the firewall ?

Thanks ahead of time

Easiest way to understand what happened is connect VIDA and check all parameters ans errors.
