63 122s. Should I buy

Post by smelycat »

This 122s 63. 4 door for sale near by. No brakes, rot tires. Not running. Is it worth 500? I sort want to save it.

If not total rust or just a shell, I would buy it for $500. If not repaired, you could part it out.

Looks like a lot of rot. Bent fender is $1000 to replace, trunk lid does not look like it fits properly and both inner front fenders look like they have disintegrated. Can't tell from the pictures but check for a kink in the front panel between the grille panels and near the bottom. If there is then the front radiator support panel has failed.

Check the floors for rot and both frame rails at the firewall from the underside.

Finally check if there is any trunk floor, holes behind the rear inner fenders and rear rocker panels.

It really depends on your level of commitment (insanity?) and ability to weld and dredge up parts. 4 doors are not worth as much as 2 doors but for $500 you might make it back parting it out.

Always liked 122S's. My first car was one and loved it until the metal termites ate it!

Good Luck!

Neil.

Not sure what your plans are for it, but it's kind of a mish-mash of different year parts.
Mid 60s grills, '68 dash, steering wheel & side reflectors (wrong location though), early 60s trunk lid handle, front door pad ($) etc.

Rust would be a deal breaker for me and that car.
IMO, $500 is about $400 high.
