Can someone tell me what this line and filter is? 9176744

Post by TheOtherside » Tue Apr 28, 2020 9:10 am

The filter is up top and the kink in the line is under the bottom intercooler hose.

They are connected.

Thanks!

On the filter, I suspect that if you twist it and look the full part number is 9186744.

If so it's a "carbon filter with fittings 4VALVE Cars with emission code 3, see product plate. For cars with emission code 4, see product sign. "

or "Volvo GENUINE VOLVO Vapor Canister Filter"

If you verify that your part number starts with a 9, then you can google that and find lots of pictures that make me think that's the part in question. If no 9, then I'm not sure.

I found this filter by searching on *186744. The wild card caught some examples for me.

The only things I've learned is:
a) it's related to emission system/ evap systems.
b) it's not much $ in case you need a new one.

Thecharcoal canisters can release some the activated charcoal and it sticks the EVAP purge valves open. They added a simple lawnmower fuel filter to stop the charcoal migration. Later models had fine mesh in the outlet area of the charcoal canister so the filters were no longer needed. The filter is not a service item, i.e., no replacement needed at some interval. If a code sets which indicates low evaporative flow then the filter is checked.

No, but route the hard plastic evap line correctly and it won’t kink

I think it isn’t placed right relative to the intercooler fat hose. It should follow the subframe and be clipped to it

Here's some information on the clips that Abscate mentions.

In the below picture:
red line = approximate path of hose (at least on my car)
red arrows = two examples of clips and on my car (1999 s70) the hose is clipped in there.

As it makes its way across the front frame member, it head towards the drivers side .

yellow arrow is approximate location where there might be a clip. Note that the yellow arrow and red path is not meant to be 100% accurate .

purple arrow is where I have a clip as well.

If your clips are missing you could use zip ties. The clips just secure the rigid hose so it doesn't kink and get in the way of anything else.

Here's another view .

This frame is from an SC90 so the clips are to be in slightly different places than on my car. Yellow arrows = clips, red path = possible hose path.

In this case I'm not even sure what might go there on an XC90 but that's ok for this discussion. The point in me using this frame as another example is just to give you an example of the general routing the hose would take on your car and the general location of where clips might be. There won't be a lot of things down there routed along your frame that could even fit in the clips.

If you find an empty clip? It's probably for your hose.

If clips are missing? zip ties should work so long as you route the hose properly
