2000 V70 Starting and then Stalling 2 seconds after.

Post by thomasanddaboys »

My 2000 V70 has been having a strange issue for the past few weeks. When I turn the key in the ignition, it starts fine and then approximately 2 seconds after starting it dies again. This happens consistently until the battery no longer has enough juice to turn the engine over. If I connect jumper cables the engine starts fine and runs with no issue. I took it to a mechanic to have it looked at, and he told me the problem was the battery, which I had replaced, but the problem is persisting. Has anyone seen this before or have any insight into what the issue might be?

If it starts and keeps running when battery is jumped with jumper cables and they are still attached to battery terminals...that means that your alternator is not charging and can't keep the engine running.

If you didn't mentioned jumper cables i would say that it's a classic immobiliser problem.

Are battery clamps tight on terminals?

So it keeps running after being jumped, even when the cables are removed.

Battery Clamps are tight on terminals.

Thank you for your response.

Let's resume this....
Does the car start and run after battery is being jumped and jumper cables removed...and will not stay running when started without jumper cables?

Lets get some voltage measurements on the B+ terminal at the battery, and also at the main fuse box.

ME7 cars do not like batteries with so so voltage.

Ok....like abscate said...you will need a digital multimeter.
Before we proceed further....when you jump the battery...do you connect both jumper cables on battery terminals(+ on + and -on-)....or you connect negative jumper cable to the engine or chasis?
