How did I convince myself to do this?

I wanted to learn how to work on my own car.. do my own brakes, maybe swap a starter or an alternator you know? But here I am 8 months later. Constantly disassembling and reassembling what feels like the largest Lego build of my life. Still, as disheartening dealing with a 200k mile European car can be, it's been alot of fun.

Couple of places in this job crows feet wrenches are really useful.

Accumulator tightening

Office tube hard line tightening.

What I see in that photo: Extra pedal, correct shifter.

No need to complain!

I'd highly recommend taking on the dash mounts while you have it apart. That's what I'd do if I ever got up the nerve to do an evap core job.

Have a real good look at the recirc air door flap motor and plastic linkage while you have that HVAC out

If you can buy it cheap new I would replace.

They do break and are hard ( impossible?) to do in car.

That's exactly the little flap door that I broke when trying to get the unit out.... I'll look for a part number on the unit and see if I can find it

Check the whole main flap assembly. I found it broke because the driver's side flap seal had turned to a sticky goo making it stick when closed and making more strain on the motor and flap. That is not available and has not been for many years. I had to pull on from a scrap car to get a good one. That may be a challenge with the age of the vehicles now. To replace required opening the whole heater box if I recall correctly.

Tackling the dash mounts even if they have not failed is worth doing as there is a good chance if they are not broken they will when you re-install. I think abscate had a write up on how to do that.

AS to why you did it, it usually comes down to alcohol or too much time on your hands! LoL
