Transmission issues
So I have a 2002 Volvo S80 t6 and I'm having transmission issues. When I first got the car the gears started slipping a little a few months after I purchased it. One day after getting fuel I started the car and started to drive and made it 20ft. Before the car stopped driving, if was like every gear was nuetral. So I did some research and decided to change the filter and the fluid. After completing that the car drove again and I had no issues until a few months later. No the car drives but the only gear that I can drive in is manual 3rd gear. The car has 189,000 miles on it. It also has the transmission service urgent message showing. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on what I should do? I really love the car and the motor is still strong. I need some advice. Thanks in advance.

Get the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). Codes from Vida-DiCE preferred.

RickHaleParker's suggestions would be helpful.
My guess is that your transmission needs to be rebuilt. Your initial fix sounds like the filter was getting clogged with worn material and once this happened the transmission did not have enough pressure to move the car. When you replaced the filter and transmission oil you cleared things up, but the damage was already at the point of needing repair. This is very common on the 4t65E transmission. 3rd gear only is the typical fail safe -- based on your symptoms that is my guess. Actual codes would help as it will affirm this scenario or eliminate it.

i plugged in my ob2 reader. I don't have a volvo code reader but the reader i do have gave me 3 codes. P0751, P0756, and P0700.
P0751- shift solenoid "A" Performance or stuck off
P0756- shift solenoid "B" Performance or stuck off
P0700- Transmission Control System (MIL Request)
Does this all mean that i need a rebuild done or is it possible to just change the solenoids? Thanks in advance. Any advice is apprectiated.

According to June (MVS member) who worked at a GM dealership for years the GM 4T65E transmissions were pretty good except for the minor design flaw. Don't tear into it till you've tried the inexpensive Transgo shift kit which I installed on our 03 S80 T6. Here is the post:NorCalBoy wrote: ↑03 May 2020, 16:48 i plugged in my ob2 reader. I concur with MoVolvos and June. Try the the inexpensive Transgo shift kit (~$38.00) with a fluid and filter change.

I would do both...if you rebuild it would be stupid not to use 100 bucks more on solenoid
