Somethings wrong with my relays

Post by My90bluebrick » Mon May 04, 2020 9:44 am

So last week my 90 240 dl would crank and crank but wouldn't turn over. I noticed this clicking noise coming from the relay . it clicked with every crank of the engine. So I had a spare and switched it out. And it started right up.
The next day I go to leave and the same thing happens. Cranking and clicking .. I look at the plug and I pull out the relay and no burn spots. Nothing looks bad.. So I decide to switch the relays again and lo and behold the relay that was clicking yesterday is working fine today.
So I do this everyday switching back n fourth. Well today no way jose, the clicking isnt the same. Sounds different . cant explain. And switching them doesnt do anything. Looked at my fuses and they seem fine. But spun them anyways. . cant just sit in my car and hear the pumps like ever since we got the computer rebuilt a few yrs ago. Cars been great till now. So what could be causing this issue? Please help? Thank you in advance

My fuel pump relays. As I'm trying to start my car. The car cranks but wont start.
And as its cranking the fuel relay is making a clicking sound. So upon further inspection abd with an extra relay in hand I popped the one that was clicking out. Inspected it and the plug for any kind of damage. And put in the new one. It started right up. Been doing that everyday for a week. Now I switch relays still wont start at all only cranks

could be loose ground points, or fuse. the main fuse power for this system is on the driver's fender, near to the battery. 25A ATO fuse.
Faces up and collects moisture from the hood/fender gap. Remove and clean the fuse holder. Install new fuse.

the last one I fixed, I replaced the fuse holder as it was too far gone. Quick and easy fix.

Ok this site definitely has changed.. Update.
Turns out the fuseable link thats connected to the battery had melted. Then I reminded my husband about that ground wire he had to fix a few yrs ago under the car for the pumps. So he replaced the in line fuse. Then jacked up the rear end. The wires he had fixed. Half of them were severed. So not a good ground at all. I would up load pictures if I could.
Anyways its running so much better.
Maybe this will help someone else down the road. Thank again

No need to post pictures. We understand cut wires. Hopefully he got the wires secured out of harms way.
